Device of Identity
This sculpture began with an idea I could not ignore. a vision of transforming my own body into a surf device. To realise it, I suspended myself from a hang board while a friend captured my form through photogrammetry. The scan was refined in Blender, where I reshaped the anatomy: merging the arms into the nose of the device, carving out my stomach to make room for the handles, and adding details like the ribs and nipples as they were not in the original scan. After multiple iterations, the design was segmented for 3D printing. The printed components were then assembled, glued, and meticulously sanded to eliminate seams. Finally, the surface was primed and painted to make it waterproof for the ocean.
I turned my own body into a surf device, a tool for riding waves and a way of exploring how identity and purpose emerge through context and function.Your body becomes both object and subject, both rider and ridden. The work is an interface with the sea, but also a meditation on recursion, transformation, and control.
