Conduit to the Beginning
Steel frame, steel cable, chain, 12 monitors, extension cords, power boards
Conduit to the Beginning is an immersive installation composed of twelve tv monitors arranged in a suspended hexagonal ring, their screens all facing inward. Viewers are invited to step inside this circular structure and stand within a field of flickering light. a space where static becomes a conduit to cosmic history.
Approximately two percent of the static visible on an analog television originates from the cosmic microwave background radiation, the residual light from the Big Bang. For this work, I used a custom-built device to capture static from the site where the piece was installed. This locally recorded signal was then displayed across all twelve screens, transforming the noise into a shared moment of encounter with the oldest light in the universe.
Hanging from steel cables and surrounded by a dense web of black extension cords, the work resembles both a technological relic and a contemporary altar. It invites viewers to meditate on deep time to consider that the light striking their face within the installation began its journey nearly 14 billion years ago. Conduit to the Beginning transforms a simple phenomenon into a space for cosmic reflection, connecting the viewer’s body to the origins of existence itself.
